Who we are
The French National Cancer Institute (INCa) is a public health and science agency fully devoted to fighting cancer, created on 9 August 2004. It operates under the dual supervision of the French Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Research.
We are a centre of expertise, data, resources and coordination aiming to provide patients, medical and scientific communities, and healthcare authorities with data and expert analyses that drive the best cancer research and care.
We act as an interface for patients, their families, healthcare system users, the general public, healthcare professionals, researchers, experts, and decision-makers, facilitating progress in cancer care.
We promote an integrated approach that works across all aspects of cancer control – health, scientific, social, and economic – as well as intervention areas such as prevention, screening, care, and research.
We lead the national effort to reduce the burden of cancer in our country. Thus, we ensure the implementation of France’s ten-year cancer control strategy. This ambitious strategy builds upon previous Cancer Plans and continues the collective mobilisation against this disease.
We are the major French cancer research funder across all cutting-edge research domains, from basic science to clinical trials.
Our governance
Our governance promotes transparency, scientific rigour, and stakeholder engagement. The Institute's various bodies bring together expertise from the patients and cancer control and research communities to guide our strategy and uphold our core values.
Our President, Dre Suzette Delaloge, was appointed July 1st, 2026.
Our Director General, Nicolas Scotté, was appointed in October 2024.

We define the best practices and care pathways for all cancer types , from prevention and screening to care.
We are the major cancer research funder in France, across all domains from basic science to clinical trials.
We steer, designate and fund organisations working on the ground.
We encourage all stakeholders to take action.
We coordinate the stakeholders involved in implementing the ten-year cancer fight strategy.
We bring all partners together.
We run the national cancer registry that gathers data from all patients to inform the fight against cancer.
